Welcome to the Show
Welcome to the wild world of the Free Form Rock Podcast, where we embrace every riff, solo, and scandalous hairdo from the glorious era of rock! If you’re a purist, a metal elitist who believes that any sound that isn’t an 8-minute guitar solo is akin to sacrilege, then this is your warning: you might want to turn down the volume and stick to your ‘perfect’ playlist filled with only the heaviest and most obscure bands that your no-caffeine diet can handle. Here, we celebrate everything from shaking your head to classic rock anthems to moshing like a maniac at a metal concert! We love all the forms of rock—classic, metal, and everything in between. So, if your idea of a good time is debating over which band had the best leather pants, you’re in for quite the ride! Sit back, relax, and remember: we don’t take ourselves too seriously—because if we did, we’d be stuck in the ‘70s, arguing over whether Led Zeppelin was better than Black Sabbath while wearing questionable platform shoes. Join us as we rock out the way rock was meant to be—loud, unapologetic, and just a little ridiculous! Tune in, turn it up, and let’s jam through the delightful chaos of our favorite tunes together!

On this episode, we review an album by a group by Tak Matsumoto that includes Eric Martin (from Eric Martin Band and Mr. Big) and Jack Blades (from Night Ranger and Damn Yankees). Our tracks of the week are Mark Slaughter’s “Baby Wants”, Jack Green’s “I Can’t Stand It” and we close with a song by Lee Gerstmann which he wrote back in 1976 with Nicholas Kent called “I Got You.” Here’s hoping you continue listening to good music and good podcasts, especially ours. Tonight we review the self-titled debut of the group Rex, featuring Rex Smith. Our guest co-host is Ralph Viera (a/k/a Dr. Fukk from Thrash Or Die). For those of you who are familiar with Rex Smith’s work on Street Hawk and The Pirates of Penzance, you may not realize he started doing heavy rock. Listen while Marc, Lee and Ralph give our individual opinions on the music. As usual, we include a Lee Gerstmann tune, “My Other Type of Wish” and our picks of the week are: Rob Thomas “Her Diamonds”, Steppenwolf “Chicken Wolf” and Manowar “Black Fire Wind and Steel.” Until the next time, groove on and keep rocking steady, everybody!

On this impromptu episode of The Free Form Rock Podcast, we go all casual and chat about everything from what makes KISS the band they are now (as opposed to when they were really good) and music well-known and obscure. You'll hear things you never would have imagined hearing as well as things you might have figured we'd play. We have fun and take off our ties (so to speak... we don't need to wear no freaking ties... ha ha). You'll hear songs from Ultimate Spinach and Traffic and Barnes & Barnes and The Fabulous Thunderbirds... and some very unique surprises. Tune in, have fun and don't worry about what anyone thinks about you. You're listening and you're cool. Rock on!
